Manchester United Set to Go to War With Rivals City Over Real Madrid's Toni Kroos

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to go to war with rivals Manchester City over the potential purchase of Real Madrid's Toni Kroos.

According to Spanish TV Show El Chiringuito, both clubs are said to be very interested in the German international after rumours have begun to circulate that the former Bayern Munich midfielder is unsettled at the Bernabeu.

Speaking of the potential battle for the Los Blancos star, Spanish journalist Pipe Estrada has suggested that both Premier League sides believe the World Cup winning midfielder is vital to their side's development.

"A war of two great coaches of international prestige," said Estrada. "Guardiola and Mourinho, for a player, a player of Real Madrid: Toni Kroos.

"The two managers believe that he may be key to their future because of his tactical position on the field and because he is vital for the continuity of their projects."

Football365 have also reported that former Manchester United legend and now football pundit on BT Sports Paul Scholes has hailed the decision to attempt to buy such a player, with the Premier League veteran explaining how his former club need control in midfield.

"I think Mourinho should go into the market for a controlling midfielder," said Scholes. "Someone who can control where Paul Pogba goes and control the game.

“I think they still need that type of player. A Luke Modric or a Toni Kroos, and I think these players are available.”
